PASD Board Appoints Two Student Board RepresentativesNewly appointed student board representatives are Lincoln High School senior Suntaya Sanchez-Butler and Port Angeles High School junior Holland Bailey.  The role of the student representative is to provide student insight and perspective to the Board of Directors and District administration; serve as a liaison to the students of Port Angeles High School and Lincoln High School through the established student governments and communications networks. The student representatives will work with their high school ASB/Leadership Advisor; and report to students about the work of the School District and the Board of Directors.

The representatives will be selected in the spring of the year for the following year.  The term of office will be for one school year, beginning in September and concluding in June.  Student representatives for Port Angeles High School and Lincoln High School will receive .5 elective credit for each semester.

Student representatives participate in board discussions but will not make motions, vote, hold Board offices or attend executive sessions.

When asked what she expects to gain from this experience, Sanchez-Butler said, “I’m hoping to make a difference for Lincoln High School and learn about how we can make a change.”

“It should be interesting,” said Bailey.

The two student reps will be in attendance at the January 4, 2018 board meeting.

“We are excited to welcome two students to the board, “said Board President Sarah Methner.  “Students provide us with valuable perspective and act as a bridge between the District and our high schools.”
